Do you like your birth name? If you had the opportunity to change it, would you? What new name would you choose?
I definitely didn't like it for a long time. I wanted something more distinct. My name is actually unique and distinct, but since the name "Brianna" became popular everyone would call me that. My name is Rianna, and so since the "r" is a little difficult to pronounce sometimes people would mishear me (or heard what they wanted to hear) and I had to repeat myself multiple times before they realized THERE IS NO B IN MY NAME. Plus I had multiple Briannas in my classes during grade school and I would think teachers were saying my name when they were saying theirs or vice versa.
It still happens, but more frequently now with the popularity of the singer Rihanna I tell people my name and they say "Oh? Like the singer?"
NO NOT LIKE THE SINGER, DAMMIT! People always have to relate unusual names to something else, don't they? They can't just take my damn name as it is? When people ask me that, I say "No, there's no H in my name. And mine is my real first name. Hers is her middle name."
That usually gets them to shut up. Yet people continue to put an H in my name.
When I was younger I did kind of want to change my name. I was named after the Fleetwood Mac song "Rhiannon", except my parents thought it was too long so they shortened it and tweaked the spelling. So for awhile I wanted to just change my name to what it originally was. But then I realize there's not that much of a difference in pronunciation, so there isn't much of a point.
I kind of just accept my name now, I guess. I don't love it but I don't hate it. Plus it sounds cool with my middle name, so if I became famous I'd consider dropping my last name since it's a little long.
